Microwave energy is most efficient when heating carbon and of course carbon is a huge factor in the construction of racing tyres. Not only is this method fast, it also penetrates deeper into the tyre (tire) thereby ensuring that the heat is retained longer – plus it is far kinder than the old fashioned tyre (tire) warmers which use electric elements to put intense heat to the surface, allowing the rest to get hot by conduction alone.

Black Frequency™ is another heating element Tyre Technology Ltd (UK) has developed to offer teams a total tyre (tire) temperature management package. This system is very similar to infra red, but uses a carbon fibre emitter encased in a high tensile quartz tube, backed with pure gold to enable it to be focused correctly. It is safe and easy to install into a racing car to allow the tyres (tires) to be kept hot whilst actually racing around the track – ideal for the out lap in qualifying, formation lap prior to the start, behind the Safety Car and of course in cold and wet conditions.
